Suddenly everywhere is black with people
Based on Elias Canetti’s book Crowds and Power (1960), Evelin investigates the mass as a coming together of singularities. The metaphor of the multitude as a place for individual freedom emerges as the different parts of the piece come together. Bathed in cold light, 5 performers from different places in the world – Teresina, Kyoto, São Paulo, Ipatinga, Amsterdam – , with bodies painted in balck as exotic as they are familiar, contort vigorously in a man-to-man combat without violence and without respite, a heaving mass moving through space, unpredictable and rhythmical.They share space with the audience; a black hole, a horizon of possibilities for the mass that seeks the darkest spot, where you are as close to the other as you are to yourself. Every place is a meeting place. Why and how do people come together?
